Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then located numerous other smeared vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state early analysis show the substance was most likely human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; officials are presently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking official commented the incident rendered him without words and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine people by a gunman targeting people of immigrant origin in 2020.
