19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player secured his first title for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a torrid period, winning just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-time coach Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Moutet.

This marks his initial championship after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt from March of that year.

Success also indicates he has secured 21 titles at 21 different events.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters together, so to get a trophy is really nice," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my child her name, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

His defensive play style and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had caused observers to question if his ability to play at the elite level was concluded.

However the player has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an better serving game.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, winning four of the final five games to take the lead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his initial ATP Tour championship, took control to push for a decider.

Moutet saved four early-game break points in a competitive final set before the Russian won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, he clinched the win with a rally at the net area, with Moutet unable to control a return after a lengthy match.
