Together Can Be Streamed, and It Might Make or Break Your Romantic Bond.

Consider this a test for those in enduring partnerships who enjoy the horror genre: Get comfortable with your partner and stream Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie just made its streaming debut on Hulu. At first glance, it may seem like typical biological terror, but inside Together exists a profound examination about how we choose to love one another.

A Debut Feature Delving into Relationship Dynamics

Together is the debut feature-length film for director Michael Shanks. It features Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have remained a couple for a decade. Married in real life in 2017, the two stars contribute a particular energy to their portrayals, expertly portraying both the joys and frustrations of a long-term relationship.

The narrative begins when Millie and Tim relocate from the big city to the rural area for Millie’s job. A commonly used story element, admittedly, but that’s primarily where the conventions conclude. Together becomes as much a psychological exploration of the pair’s relationship as it is a body horror flick.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While trekking near their new home, a violent storm occurs, and Millie and Tim fall into an hole in the earth. After a night spent there and eventually escaping, a mysterious influence takes hold of the couple. This force induces a supernatural closeness between them that goes well past simple connection.

The entire film is a slow burn fright fest, interspersing moments of dreamlike terrors, disturbing (but not excessively graphic) biological grotesqueries, and authentically humorous exchanges (sometimes during something grotesque). Shanks orchestrates these parts neatly and presents them in a gradually swelling atmosphere of fear.

Complex Characterizations

A great deal of Together is exclusively the performances of its stars, and they masterfully render manifold depths to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Her self-assurance and emotional bond is waning due to a distance. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his reluctance to focus on anything other than his struggling artistic pursuits gradually emerges.

Conversely, Tim experiences isolation and cut off by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve relocated rural and far away from his social circle. He fears the concept of completely losing his personal autonomy in another person. This fear is further exacerbated by the fact he does not operate a vehicle and needs Millie for getting around.

The film's most intelligent aspect in Together never makes one partner or the other the obvious villain.

Tim and Millie confront the sort of issues that are inherent in most partnerships after ten years. Fundamentally, they still love one another. They find humor with each other, comfort one another, and are vulnerable at times. But below this facade, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their relationship.

Allegory and Meaning

While the supernatural forces in Together act as a metaphor for these fears of unhealthy attachment and giving oneself over to another person, the metaphor never feels hamfisted or heavy-handed. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes provide a brilliant analogue to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the horror and the drama work together symbiotically.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s final act, which is best experienced firsthand, has sparked debate on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. Reports indicate that those not in relationships have seen the movie as a powerful case for staying single. Conversely, some couples experiencing tension found that the film ended up guiding them to make up.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own response could act as a revealing measure of how you perceive partnership. Will the finale inspire feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you identify in one of the characters and yell at the screen, or simply glance toward your significant other and utter, “I’d do that for you”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an exploration you can embark on at this very moment.

Together is available to watch on Hulu's platform as of this moment.
